List of Needs

alignment autonomy build trust control/influence Feb 27, 2024
I found this 'What Do We Need' list left on a whiteboard in a meeting room.

Structure
Trust
Freedom
Patience
Info
Reassurance
Praise
Direction

My first thought was, 'isn't this list something all teams and individuals need?!'

And then I wondered how they were going to go about getting everything they wanted on their list...

This is the hardest bit, of course, and requires their leader to be aware and willing to respond and change. It's also up to the team members to be intentional and consistent in their collaboration together, so they grow and learn together.

In our work at Go Slow to Go Fast™ we know that consistently building alignment in teams (structure, info, direction) and trust (patience, praise, reassurance) will directly lead to greater levels of self-leadership and autonomy (freedom) and, therefore, higher levels of productivity and lower levels of bad, anxiety inducing stress. We've seen this happens lots of times and we've done it ourselves, too.

We've got tools and videos in our community site that can guide you on how to do it!

Hazel Swayne and I also show up every Friday in our live group coaching sessions to help guide you through 'that thing that's not quite working for you' in your team.
